CIAT Architectural Technologists Register goes live today!
by Bregs Blog admin team
The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) recently sent the following email to members concerning the new separate register for Architectural Technologists for Ireland. This follows successful lobbying in Europe to get Architectural Technologists recognised as competent professionals under the new building regulations. For upcoming membership events in Ireland please check here.
The register is due to go live today, Thursday 31st July 2014.

Dear member,
As a Chartered Architectural Technologist, you are eligible to apply and join the voluntary Register for Architectural Technologists in Ireland for free. The voluntary Register is distinct and separate to CIAT.
The Architectural Technologists’ Register represents those practising and studying the discipline within the Republic of Ireland. It sets, assesses and monitors the competency standards for Architectural Technologist applicants.
The Register is currently voluntary, the formation of which is supported by the Department for Environment, Communities and Local Government (DECLG). The objective of the voluntary Architectural Technologists’ Register is for it to attain Statutory status and for its Registrants to be accepted as competent to provide Design and Assigned Certifier services under the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014. This is a possibility as indicated by the DECLG at our meeting with them on 17 July 2014. For this to be achieved primary legislation will be required and the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 will require amendment.
We urge you to join and support this initiative. To do so, please read the attached Code of Conduct and complete and return the attached Nomination Form which requires you to sign a declaration to comply with the Code and regulations of the Register.
All non-Chartered Members of CIAT or unregistered Architectural Technologists will need to demonstrate competence to join the Register and pay a €150 fee; the information for achieving this will be found on the Register’s website.
www.architecturaltechnologistsregister.ie will go live on 31 July 2014. The Register will be promoted accordingly via all methods and media in the coming days, please feel free to pass the website link to appropriate contacts.
Any queries, please do not hesitate to ask.
